HIPO - High-speed Imaging Photometer for Occultations
HIPO is a first-light instrument for SOFIA (NASA's Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy, a modified 747 airliner with a 2.5-m telescope). This instrument consists of two CCDs that can obtain simultaneous observations at red and blue (optical) wavelengths, at a full frame rate of greater than 2 Hz. The PI on this project is E. W. Dunham at Lowell Observatory. PAL members are supporting the science program and design requirements by providing information on stellar occultations by small bodies. Additional details can be found in Dunham et al. (2004) and an informative HIPO flyer.
